Released for publication: The Israeli officer who was killed has been identified as Major David “Dudi” Golan according to the IDF spokesperson on Tuesday. Golan’s co-pilot was critically wounded when their Apache attack helicopter crashed on landing moments after they reported a technical failure, whereupon it crashed inside the Israeli air force base. The co-pilot was airlifted to the Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva.

“A military helicopter crashed at an Israeli Air Force (IAF) base in southern Israel. Major David Zohar died and a second officer is critically injured,” the IDF spokesperson said.

The IDF has launched a full investigation into the tragic accident and ordered all combat choppers  be grounded until the outcome of the investigation.

Golan’s uncle also reportedly died in a helicopter accident while serving in the IDF.
