D.C. Police Rule out Terror Attack in Hit and Run of Officers, Despite Truck Being Driven By 2 ‘Muslim Looking Men’ With Assault Rifle

Despite police earlier saying that the DC truck hit and run was a “possible terror attack” and the truck being driven by two bearded men who were described as “bearded, Muslim looking men”, D.C police have ruled out the attack as being terror related.

The bearded passenger being loaded into an ambulance after the truck he was in struck 2 police officers, injuring one critically and then crashing into a garbage truck.

According to Washington Times:

“Metropolitan Police Chief Peter Newsham said Friday that terrorism has been ruled out in a vehicular accident that hit two bike-patrol officers and a city employee before speeding off and slamming into a recycling truck.
All three victims were reportedly in stable condition by Friday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 9pm Thursday in the Adams Morgan neighborhood, long popular for its eateries, shopping and nightlife.

Both suspects are from Virginia. Brandon Figures-Mormon, 22, was charged with assault with intent to kill and possession of an unregistered firearm. Mr. Figures-Mormon is from Disputanta, a community near Richmond. The passenger, Dwayne Nicholas Taylor, 23, of Prince George, was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm.

Chief Newsham said Friday that it was unclear if the police officers and transportation worker were intended targets. The chief also said an act of terrorism had been ruled out.

The men were speeding along 18th Street NW in a white pickup truck when they hit the officers and the city employee, and kept speeding.”
