Celebrity chef José Andrés’ tenure on Former President Joe Biden’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition came to an abrupt end on Donald Trump’s first day back in office.
“YOU’RE FIRED!” Trump wrote Monday night on his Truth Social account, invoking his old catchphrase from “The Apprentice” television show.

Biden awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Andrés earlier this month in recognition of his humanitarian efforts, including running World Central Kitchen (WCK), which provides large-scale relief to communities affected by natural disasters and conflict around the world.
WCK had made headlines in December when it was revealed that several workers with ties to terrorist organizations in Gaza had been dismissed. It came down after Israeli officials discovered that a WCK employee, Ahed Azmi Qdeih, had participated in Hamas’s October 7 massacre in 2023. Predictably, WCK claimed they had no knowledge of any employee involvement in the carnage, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages being taken to Gaza. Qdeih was later killed during an airstrike in Gaza.
Early on in the war two armored WCK cars were hit by an Israeli airstrike while leaving a warehouse in central Gaza. They had been in the process of unloading humanitarian aid that had been delivered from Cyprus. The Israeli military apologized for the unintentional deaths and dismissed two senior officers following an internal investigation.
Andrés was one of four Biden appointees fired by Trump. Declaring their dismissals effective immediately, the others axed by America’s newest president were Mark Milley from the National Infrastructure Advisory Council; Brian Hook from his trustee position at the Wilson Center for Scholars; and former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from Biden’s export council.
