Chaos in Amsterdam continued Monday after pro-Hamas rioters torched a tram and ransacked the city’s Nieuw-West district, as Dutch authorities struggle to contain a wave of anti-Semitic violence.

Video footage captured mobs wielding makeshift weapons and hurling firecrackers through the streets, while local polices scrambled to extinguish the burning tram. The latest rampage comes just days after a violent mob hunted down Jewish soccer fans following a match between Ajax and Maccabi Tel Aviv last Thursday.

Dutch authorities finally admitted Friday what victims already knew: organized thugs conducted a systematic manhunt of Israelis through Amsterdam’s streets, sending five to local hospitals and leaving dozens more injured. The attacks targeted some 2,600 Jewish visitors, with witnesses at the scene telling DW that some Jews were thrown into canals while police stood idly by.

City officials have responded with heightened security measures. The mayor has implemented a citywide ban on demonstrations and designated several areas as risk zones, granting police expanded search powers. Despite these restrictions, hundreds gathered Sunday night at Dam Square for an anti-Israel demonstration, resulting in clashes with law enforcement and over 50 arrests.

Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof addressed the escalating situation Monday, condemning last week’s violence as “purely antisemitic” and emphasizing that targeting Jews is without justification.

“The images and reports from Amsterdam and what we’ve seen this weekend of antisemitic attacks against Israelis and Jews are nothing short of shocking and reprehensible,” he said.

Israel’s national security council has warned its citizens against traveling to the UK and Europe for cultural and sporting events in the wake of the attacks.

“In the past few days, there have been calls among pro-Palestinian/terrorist-supporter groups to harm Israelis and Jews under the pretense of demonstrations and protests,” the council said.”
