Violent anti-Israel protests on US campuses are starting to come back in full force despite the semester barely beginning.
During yesterday’s annual Festifall fair at the University of Michigan, dozens of antisemitic protesters made their presence known to the thousands of attendees and high-profile sponsors in attendence. Chants of “Israel bombs, U of M pays, how many kids did you kill today?” were heard while waving signs depicting Gazan casualties.
Things quickly turned violent when Jewish counter-protesters arrived, shouting “Bring them home” in reference to the Israeli hostages held by Hamas. For nearly two hours, the opposing groups faced off with each other until university police stepped in.
“The university has been clear that we will enforce our policies related to protests and expressive activity, and will hold individuals accountable for their actions in order to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all,” UM spokeswoman Colleen Mastony told the Daily Michigan.
“Today, a group of approximately 50 individuals sought to disrupt a university event and were asked to disperse. Forhours they were given multiple warnings that made clear they were blocking pedestrian traffic and violating university policy.”
Organized by an antisemitic group which calls itself the “Tahrir Coalition,” four students and one university employee were arrested in the incident.
Anti-Israel ‘activists’ at other college campuses are also starting off the semester on the wrong foot. On Monday, an administrative building at Cornell University was vandalized with antisemitic graffiti after recently appointed interim president Michael Kotlikoff announced new punitive policies for campus disruption.
