A group of pro-Hamas Democrats has announced it will not endorse Democratic nominee Kamala Harris over her failure to condemn Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.

“Vice President Harris’s unwillingness to shift on unconditional weapons policy or to even make a clear campaign statement in support of upholding existing U.S. and international human rights law has made it impossible for us to endorse her,” the group said in a statement on Thursday.

Dubbed “The Uncommitted Movement,” after Arab voters selected “uncommitted” in Democratic primaries to protest the administration’s support for Israel’s defensive actions in Gaza, they claimed that Harris had given them the cold shoulder by refusing even the “small gesture” of allowing a Palestinian American speaker at last month’s Democratic National Convention.

Still, despite withholding their endorsement, the Uncommitted Movement emphasized their opposition to former President Donald Trump, “whose agenda includes plans to accelerate the killing in Gaza while intensifying the suppression of anti-war organizing.”

“We must block Donald Trump, which is why we urge Uncommitted voters to vote against him and avoid third-party candidates that could inadvertently boost his chances, as Trump openly boasts that third parties will help his candidacy,” the group said.

Meanwhile, Green Party nominee Jill Stein and left-wing third-party candidate Cornel West are intensifying their efforts to attract voters sympathetic to the “Palestinian cause.” Both have selected Muslim American running mates and addressed a gathering of Hamas sympathizers in Dearborn, Michigan this past week.

Although no third-party candidate realistically stands a chance in the US presidential system, especially after RFK Jr. dropped out last month, the Arab American vote can play a key factor in battleground states such as Michigan.

Biden’s 2020 triumph in Michigan owes much to the substantial backing he received from Arab Americans, where he won 70% of their vote. Approximately 200,000 Muslims live in Michigan, representing about 2% of the state’s overall population. Nationally, 68% of Arab American voters chose Biden, while 35% opted for Trump.”
