A synagogue in Hollywood has fallen victim to an act of vandalism.

Security camera footage captured two hooded individuals on Thursday approaching the Kahal Ahavas Yisroel synagogue on Melrose Avenue. One man, wearing a dark hoodie, began hitting the windows with his forearm before using an unidentified object to smash them. His accomplice, wearing a light-colored hoodie appeared to record the incident on a cellphone.

Doni Dror, a board member of the synagogue, confirmed that the perpetrators did not enter the building and no property was stolen. He also stated that the synagogue was vandalized earlier in the summer and believes the two incidents are connected.

“It’s clear that these attacks are driven by antisemitism,” Dror told KCAL News. “The proximity of these incidents targeting our synagogue leaves little room for doubt about their nature.”

“There are a number of members who are expressing concern about showing up at all because they don’t want to be the victim of another hate crime,” he said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating both incidents as potential hate crimes. However, details about the earlier vandalism and the current investigation remain limited. As investigations continue, there are calls for increased protection and support for Jewish institutions in the area.

According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the tidal wave of antisemitic incidents flooding America came after Hamas launched its massacre against Israel on October 7. Just within three months following the attack, 3,291 antisemitic incidents were reported. That number has since ballooned to 8,873 in their latest report in July.
