Antisemitic influencer Candace Owens has come under fire again after suggesting that the Lubavitcher Rebbe was a white supremacist.
During a recent episode of “Piers Morgan Uncensored,” Owens faced off against Rabbi Shmuley Boteach in what was meant to be a discussion about the Israel-Hamas war and antisemitism. However, the conversation took an unexpected turn when Owens brought up Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, known to his followers as the “Rebbe.”
Rabbi Schneerson, who passed away in 1994, remains a deeply influential figure in Jewish history. His teachings continue to shape Jewish practice worldwide and have been instrumental in keeping Jewish identity alive in the diaspora.
“What did Rabbi Schneerson preach?” Owens asked. “Well, he preached Jewish supremacism, the hatred of all non-Jews. You don’t have to take my word for it because if I said it they would say ‘that’s antisemitism.’
“You can go through his speeches and you will see that he continually talks about how non-Jews should be a different species. We have to come to terms with the fact that there are Jewish radicals, and it’s incumbent on the Jewish community to call them out.”
In response to the controversy, the official Chabad-Lubavitch Twitter account highlighted the Rebbe’s efforts to promote unity, particularly citing his response to the 1991 Crown Heights riots in Brooklyn. During that time, the Rebbe played a major role in bringing peace between the Hasidic and Black communities in New York City.
This is not the first time Owens has made controversial statements about Jewish history. She has denied the Holocaust on multiple occasions and even claimed Soviet leader Joseph Stalin was Jewish. However, this time around her contentious comments irked the son of Robert F. Kennedy, who often used to go to the Rebbe for guidance.
“Rabbi Schneerson preached a message of unadulterated love, tolerance, respect, and universal justice for all of humanity. My father considered him a spiritual mentor and sought his advice on diverse issues of morality and ethics,” RFK Jr wrote on X.
“He once visited the Rebbe at 2 o’clock in the morning! As Americans, we need to distance ourselves from the troubling rise in antisemitism. We need unity in our country, not divisiveness. That’s what Rabbi Schneerson stood for.”
Media literacy advocates stress the importance of fact-checking and critical thinking when consuming content from online influencers. With over 5 million followers across various social media platforms, Candace is directly contributing to the surge of antisemitism and global violence against Israel.
