A year after Hamas’ October 7 massacre against Israel, antisemitism in the United Kingdom remains stubbornly high.
According to a survey by Britain’s Home Office, religious hate crimes targeting Jewish people more than doubled in the past year, with 3,282 incidents recorded, up from 1,543 in the previous year. Alarmingly, this sharp increase has pushed antisemitic offenses to account for a third of all hate-related crimes in the United Kingdom.
While Jewish communities in the UK bore the brunt of this increase, Muslims also experienced a rise in targeted hate crimes. The report recorded 3,866 incidents against Arab communities, marking a 13% increase from the previous year.
As was the case globally, a significant spike was observed in the days right after Hamas attacked Israel, with public fear and distress offenses being the most prevalent against both UK Jewish and Arab communities.
“We must not allow events unfolding in the Middle East to play out in increased hatred and tension here on our streets, and those who push this poison – offline or online – must face the full force of the law,” Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said in a statement on Saturday.
“The more than doubling of reported antisemitic hate crime and the significant increase in Islamophobic hate crime are very serious,” she said. “We must have zero tolerance for antisemitism, Islamophobia and every other form of heinous hate in Britain, and we back the police in taking strong action against those targeting our communities.”
Other organizations have reported even higher numbers, such as the Community Security Trust (CST) recording an unprecedented 5,583 antisemitic incidents in the UK over the last 12 months.
These protesters believe they hold the moral high ground but they are the worse offenders of racism . The leaders are dangerous and do not uphold. Western values of democracy and freedom and their behaviour supports and incites antisemitism. All the followers have no clue about what they support and make a mockery of human resilience and integrity
