Tensions soared across Judea and Samaria on Wednesday after news broke that Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran.

Arabs in Judea and Samaria quickly organized a general strike and took to the streets to protest. Mosques throughout the area used loudspeakers to mourn Haniyeh’s death and call for acts of violence against Israel. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas added his voice to the chorus of condemnation, describing Haniyeh’s assassination as a “cowardly and dangerous act,” according to WAFA News.

A joint statement by Arab terror factions residing in PA-controlled areas called for a “war of extermination” against Israel.

“The national and Islamic factions in Palestine announce a comprehensive strike and anger marches to protest the assassination of the great national leader Ismail Haniyeh, which came in the framework of Zionist state terrorism and its war of extermination,” the statement reads.

Although Israel has not accepted responsibility for the attack, a US official tells CBS News that the government believes both Haniyeh and top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr were killed in Israeli strikes.

Meanwhile, Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed that the US was not notified of the assassinations nor had a hand in them. Rather, he tried to downplay their significance by focusing on ceasefire efforts in Gaza.

“This is something we were not aware of or involved in. It’s very hard to speculate. I’m not going to speculate on what impact any one event might have on that.” Blinken said during an interview with Channel News Asia on Wednesday.

“What I do know is the enduring imperative of getting the ceasefire,” he added. “I think that nothing takes away from the importance of getting to the ceasefire.”

With Iran vowing revenge, reports suggest that US and Israeli officials are readying themselves for potential retaliation. This could come from the regime’s proxy terror networks or as a direct strike akin to Iran’s April offensive that saw over 400 missiles launched at the Jewish State.
