BBC Arabic has come under criticism for featuring an Arab man convicted of murdering an Israeli man in the early 90’s.

Ismat Mansour was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in the 1993 murder of Haim Mizrahi, a 30-year-old Israeli who was stabbed to death near Beit El in Judea and Samaria. Mizrahi’s killing occurred just a month after Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) signed the Oslo Accords, and tragically while Mizrahi’s wife was pregnant.

Mansour, who was 16 at the time, was among three terrorists convicted in the murder. Although he denied personally stabbing Mizrahi, he later admitted to having held the victim down during the attack.

According to The Telegraph, Mansour has been interviewed by BBC Arabic at least seven times over the past seven months. Introduced as either an Arab “political analyst” or “author and researcher,” Mansour would provide his “expert take” on Israel’s “genocidal” actions in Gaza

Critics argue that BBC Arabic failed to inform its audience about Mansour’s criminal past and his reported lack of remorse for his involvement in the killing. In response to the Telegraph’s investigation, the BBC issued a statement admitting that it should have provided “additional context” about Mansour for its viewers.

“BBC News Arabic is committed to hearing from a range of voices and perspectives, and although at times when we have heard from Mr Mansour we have referenced his 1993 conviction, we recognize that, when appropriate, further details should be given to provide additional context for our audience,” the statement reads.
