A new poll has revealed a significant shift in the lack of faith Israelis have in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership.

Th survey by Maariv shows that 69% of respondents believe Netanyahu should step down when elections are next held, while only 22% support him running for prime minister again. Even among coalition party supporters opinion was divided with 46% favoring his resignation and 43% supporting another run.

Despite these numbers, Netanyahu still outperforms opposition leader Yair Lapid and National Unity leader Benny Gantz in head-to-head matchups. When pitted against Lapid, Netanyahu gained a slight edge with 36% approval compared to Lapid’s 27%. Against Gantz the margin narrows to just 1% with Netanyahu at 33% and Gantz at 32%.

Interestingly, former prime minister Naftali Bennett who is currently not active in politics, emerged as the only figure deemed more suitable to lead the country. Bennett garnered 38% approval compared to Netanyahu’s 33% in a hypothetical contest.

Netanyahu has been under immense political pressure both internally and from outside actors to bring an immediate end to the war in Gaza and bring the remaining hostages back home safe.

The poll also addressed other pressing issues, including the upcoming commemoration of the October 7 Hamas massacre. A significant majority (60%) of respondents favored an alternative ceremony organized by affected families over the state’s ceremony (18%). Moreover, 60% of those surveyed said they would not even watch the state ceremony.

Education was another focal point, with widespread dissatisfaction evident. A staggering 59% of respondents rated Education Minister Yoav Kisch’s performance as terrible, while 74% expressed overall disappointment with Israel’s education system.

    What a joke.
It was Bennet ( the high tech guru) that embraced reducing the army numbers and relying on tech to build a “ small but tight smart military”. Cut out battalions and substituted fences, sensors and reconnaissance blimps…. Sold our helicopters. A real graduate of West Point. Or Annapolis.
Well where did our “small but smart army” do for us on October 7? No troops, no weapons, no helicopters.

And to add fat to the fire… all the weapons that had been earmarked for Israel by the USA and kept on hold for Israel in the USA for the “just in case” scenario ( in the case of extreme and immediate military emergency) were given away to the Ukraine by Bennet. We had no emergency supply. And that’s why we were in a deficit. Way to go Naphtali. Not a Patton nor a Churchill
