The government of Chilean President Gabriel Boric has chosen to align itself on the wrong side of history by endorsing South Africa’s allegations of “genocide” against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
“These acts demand a firm and permanent response from the international community,” Boric shamelessly declared to lawmakers on Saturday, accusing the Jewish state of using “indiscriminate and disproportionate” force against Arabs in Gaza.
Last year, the disgraced South African government opened a case at the ICJ, absurdly claiming Israel has violated the Genocide Convention through its legitimate military operations. Israel has forcefully rejected this blood libel, noting its actions were triggered by the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel that brutally murdered around 1,200 innocents and took 250 hostages.
Despite the clear facts, the hopelessly compromised ICJ has repeatedly issued orders demanding Israel immediately halt its “acts of genocide” and just recently ordered the IDF to stand down from entering Rafah.
It is appalling that Chile, home to one of the largest Arab communities outside the Middle East, has chosen to pander to this demographic and align itself with a group of mostly developing countries, including Mexico, Brazil, and Indonesia, in supporting South Africa’s malicious petition. This unholy alliance seeks to pervert the very definition of genocide, equating Israel’s self-defense with the barbarity of Hamas.
Santiago’s support for Hamas’ war of extermination against the Jewish people will not be forgotten easily. His embrace of terrorist factions has burned whatever credibility Chile had left on the world stage.
