Even CNN’s liberal anchor Erin Burnett called out Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign on OutFront Friday night, highlighting the campaign’s apparent attempt to balance conflicting messages on the Israel-Gaza conflict for battleground state voters. Burnett discussed “the fine line that the Harris campaign is trying to walk” in appealing to both Arab voters in Michigan and Jewish voters in Pennsylvania.

Burnett aired a campaign ad running in Michigan in which Harris expresses empathy for Gaza, saying, “What has happened in Gaza over the past nine months is devastating. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering. And I will not be silent.” A network chyron read, “HARRIS CAMPAIGN’S MESSAGE ON ISRAEL-GAZA DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU LIVE.”

By contrast, Burnett noted, the Pennsylvania ad delivers a different tone. In that ad, Harris states, “Let me be clear: I will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself. Because the people of Israel must never again face the horror that a terrorist organization called Hamas caused on October 7th.”
