Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival organizers are scrambling to distance themselves after Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap transformed their Saturday performance into a crusade against Israel.

Disturbingly, Kneecap projected “F–k Israel. Free Palestine” across concert screens during their performance and orchestrated “Free Palestine” chants throughout their set.

“Palestinians have nowhere to go. It’s their f—ing home. And they’re bombing them from the skies,” frontman Mo Chara ranted. “If you’re not calling it a genocide what the f— are you calling it?”

Multiple Jewish organizations quickly condemned Kneecap’s performance, with the Simon Wiesenthal Center calling it “incendiary and anti-Israel hate.”

“At its best, music should bring people together and spread empathy, not hate,” said SWC CEO Jim Berk. “It’s therefore remarkable that Kneecap used a music festival to foment hate, exactly the kind of gathering where, on October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists brutally murdered, raped, burned and kidnapped innocent young people at the Nova Music Festival in Israel.”

Hollywood Reporter insiders claim Goldenvoice CEO Paul Tollett, whose company produces Coachella, was “blindsided” by Kneecap’s stunt despite a long history of anti-Israel sentiment. Music industry heavyweight Scooter Braun also rushed to Tollett’s defense, noting that he paid respects to victims of Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre.

“When I invited him to the opening of the Nova music exhibit in Los Angeles, he was the first person from the industry to accept. He came on his own time and spent five hours in the exhibit and then met with survivors of Nova and invited them to the festival this year as his guest,” Braun wrote Monday on Instagram. “Let’s not lose sight of who this man is, and let us stand with him in this moment when a group, without his knowing, took advantage of his festival and created hate in a place that’s filled with love.”

Last week, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong stirred similar controversy during the band’s headlining Coachella set. During “Jesus of Suburbia,” Armstrong changed “running away from pain when you’ve been victimized” to “Running away from pain like kids in Palestine,” drawing cheers from portions of the crowd.
