Israel’s government unanimously appointed Likud veteran Danny Danon on Sunday to reprise his role as Ambassador to the United Nations.

“I am proud to return to serve the State of Israel as Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations during this critical period. I am committed to boldly presenting the truth for the sake of the people of Israel and our shared future here,” Danon wrote on X.

“With Israel confronting challenges on multiple fronts, it is imperative for each of us to contribute to the best of our abilities and experiences.”

Danon, set to succeed Gilad Erdan, brings his formidable diplomatic arsenal back to the world stage as Israel fights for its right to survive. During his first tenure from 2015 to 2020, Danon’s unwavering defense of Israel certainly left an indelible mark on the UN.

His historic election as chair of the UN Legal Committee in June 2016 broke new ground, marking the first time an Israeli led a permanent UN committee. That year Danon also orchestrated an unprecedented official UN tour to Israel, bringing 40 ambassadors face-to-face with the harsh realities Israelis face under constant threat from Arab violence.

Never one to shy away from confrontation, Danon consistently called out anti-Israel bias. His March 2017 conference at the UN to combat the BDS movement drew over 2,000 attendees. Remarkably in 2018, he spearheaded efforts to condemn Hamas at the UN General Assembly, securing a majority vote in a significant moral victory for the Jewish state.
