Democrats are anticipating a sizeable chunk of their caucus to boycott Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming address to Congress.
According to Axios, anti-Israel Democrats are already coordinating a protest campaign eerily reminiscent of their party’s partisan boycott of Netanyahu’s 2015 speech exposing Obama’s disastrous Iran nuclear deal. This year’s expected mass walkout is being justified through libelous accusations of Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.
“The boycott will be large,” Congressional Progressive Caucus chair Pramila Jayapal told Axios. “A lot of people are extremely upset he is coming here.” Other hardline anti-Israel voices like Rep. Jim McGovern were even more blunt, declaring “I wish it wasn’t happening.”
While a handful of Democrats feign reluctance about staging a protesting, the boycott brigade is openly coordinating disruption tactics. Political analysts predict anywhere from 50 to 100 absences if Israel’s defensive operations against Hamas continue.
This overtly hostile behavior towards Israel and its democratically elected leader is simply unconscionable from any member of Congress. The US has long upheld a principled, bipartisan consensus supporting its vital alliance with Israel by rejecting Arab efforts to delegitimize the Jewish State’s right to self-defense.
Yet today’s Democrats are increasingly held hostage by a radical ideology opposed to Israel’s very existence. From fueling antisemitic boycott movements to providing cover for Hamas’ human rights atrocities, the far-left’s malign agenda seeks to sever the US’s unbreakable bond with its closest ally in the region.
Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican leaders must be prepared to forcefully condemn any behavior disgracing Congress during Netanyahu’s much anticipated address.
