Donald Trump has won the 2024 presidential election, clinching a historic second term and becoming only the second president since Grover Cleveland in 1892 to serve nonconsecutive terms in the White House.

The former president, who first won office in 2016 but lost to Joe Biden in 2020, defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in an election cycle marked by extraordinary developments. The presidency was all but locked up at 2 a.m. on Tuesday after[winning the critical swing state of Pennsylvania and its 19 electoral votes after sweeping Ohio, Georgia and North Carolina.

Running alongside his vice-presidential pick, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, Trump maintained a strong lead despite facing unprecedented legal challenges. His campaign successfully navigated four criminal indictments, including cases in Manhattan, where he faced a six-week trial and conviction for falsifying business records, and in Georgia, where several charges were ultimately dismissed.

The Trump campaign’s message centered on what they termed the ‘Biden-Harris failures,’ particularly focusing on inflation and border security. His final weeks included a sold-out rally at Madison Square Garden in traditionally Democratic New York City.

Trump’s victory came with support from unexpected support, including Independent candidate  Robert F. Kennedy Jr. well as business tycoon Elon Musk.
