An Estonian children’s summer camp in Canada has been exposed for its decades-long celebration of Nazi war criminals.
At the heart of the camp in Elora, Ontario stands a sword-shaped monument that honors four Estonian commander of the Waffen-SS. The monument erected in the 1970s lists the names of Colonel Alfons Rebane, Paul Maitla, Harald Nugiseks, and Harald Riipalu, who participated in the massacre of Belarus’s Jewish population in 1942.

The Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Center (FSWC), who discovered this shameful monument on Monday, also found that at least 15 individuals listed on the camp’s website share names with people directly tied to the Waffen-SS. One such member, August Jurs, authored a book titled “Estonian Freedom Fighters in World War ll” and served in both the Wehrmacht and the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS.
“We are shocked and deeply disturbed to learn that for five decades, a summer camp right here in Ontario has been celebrating Nazi war criminals who were involved in the genocide against Estonia’s Jews as part of the Holocaust,” said FSWC Director Jaime Kirzner-Roberts.
“It’s sickening that for several generations, this camp has been indoctrinating children into worshipping Nazi Waffen-SS leaders, men who not only committed war crimes but also were among the enemies of Canada that our veterans fought so courageously, often sacrificing their lives, to defeat during the Second World War.”
In an attempt to address the issue, the FSWC reached out to camp leadership last week. However, their efforts were met with silence. Instead, the camp quietly removed references to the Nazi collaborators and photos of the monument from its website.
So? It’s never too late to dismantle such a monument and close the camp that indoctrinates young minds!
Close the camp, a hotbed of Nazi collaborators, indoctrinating and polluting their youth. Canada cannot allow Nazi propaganda to stain their soil after the Holocaust and Canadian veterans fought and died to stop this. Deport them immediately.
This has had to come from adults. We deal with similar by taking the whole class to our Jewish memorial museum and show the people the Rwanda (black students) genocide and the Jewish Holocaust.
So where are the left wing agitators that would do their best to deface or demolish this sickening monument??
I can assure you that no such “indoctrination” has taken place at this camp. Estonians and their youth have never “worshipped” Nazis or anyone who commits genocide, and are well aware of the atrocities that happened during the Holocaust. Remember, that during the Holocaust, there were other atrocities taking place by the Soviets against Estonia and many other annexed European countries. Many Estonians were forced to impossibly choose between joining the Soviets or Nazis. Many had no choice at all. So do some research before you start criticizing a monument you know little about.
