President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he will nominate former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as the next U.S. ambassador to Israel. Huckabee, a vocal supporter of Israel, is set to be nominated as part of Trump’s commitment to strengthen U.S.-Israel relations, particularly amidst conflicts involving Iran-backed groups like Hamas and Hezbollah.
“Mike has shown exceptional service as a public figure, governor, and faith leader for many years,” Trump said in a statement. “He has a deep love for Israel, which is reciprocated by the Israeli people. Mike will dedicate himself to achieving peace in the Middle East.
