A former Bachelor contestant has come under fire for insensitively sharing her planned outfit for a visit to Auschwitz.
Boasting a following of 114,000 on Instagram, Anna Redman shared her packing list for an upcoming trip to Poland, detailing her carefully curated outfits for each day of the itinerary. The sixteenth stop on her trip is a visit to Auschwitz, the Nazis’ largest concentration camp where an estimated 1.1 million Jews were systematically murdered during the Holocaust.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp GroupRedman’s choice of attire for Auschwitz – a short black dress, sneakers, and a bag slung over her right shoulder – suggests that she planned to visit the site of unimaginable human suffering as just another stop on her fashionable European tour. The caption accompanying the photo, “The best packing ‘hack.’ Is somebody going to match my freak?” only added to the outrage, with many interpreting it as a disrespectful attempt at humor.
Critics wasted no time in flooding Redman’s Instagram account to express their disgust at her insensitive post.
“You know what’s embarrassing? How tone deaf you are to post an Auschwitz outfit on your stories,” one user pointed out.
Another critic wrote, “This is tone deaf as h**l and implies she’s going to be taking ‘aesthetic’ photos at a death camp where over 1 million people were murdered. Girl. Goodbye. This is f****d up.”
As the criticism mounted, Redman quickly deleted her offending post and issued an apology.
“I understand the heaviness of visiting Auschwitz and have been planning accordingly since we added seeing it in our travel plans. I’m very sorry and took it down as soon as I understood the gravity of the mistake I made,” she wrote back on Instagram.
“I had no ill intentions behind it AT ALL. And I hope you guys can understand that.”
Despite Redman’s apology, her insensitive post has once again shed light on the growing concern over influencer culture and its often self-centered approach to important issues. The idea of treating Auschwitz as just another opportunity for a fashionable photo op is just another testament to the warped priorities and lack of empathy that plague certain segments of world’s influencer community.
