After enduring 477 days in Hamas captivity, Daniella Gilboa is celebrating her 21st birthday surrounded by loved ones—a stark contrast to her 20th, which she spent as a hostage surrounded by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Her journey from abduction to freedom is a powerful testament to resilience, sisterhood, and the enduring human spirit.

The Abduction

That morning, she sent photos and videos to her boyfriend, showcasing her outfit for the day. Hours later, Hamas terrorists launched a coordinated surprise attack on the base. Daniella and several fellow soldiers were abducted and taken into Gaza. Her family later identified her in a Hamas propaganda video by the shirt she was wearing and her signature ponytail.

Life in Captivity
During her time in captivity, Daniella was subjected to harrowing conditions. She lived in complete darkness, deprived of food and basic hygiene, and endured relentless psychological stress. In a particularly cruel twist, she was forced to appear in a Hamas-staged video falsely announcing her death, further traumatizing her family and supporters.
The Release
On January 25, 2025, Daniella was freed along with three other female IDF soldiers—Karina Ariev, Naama Levy, and Liri Albag—as part of a mediated ceasefire and hostage exchange. The women were released after 477 days of captivity in exchange for 200 Palestinian prisoners. Their return, facilitated by the Red Cross, marked a moment of collective relief and emotion for their families and the Israeli public.
A Birthday Wish—and a Tribute
Now back home, Daniella is celebrating her 21st birthday—her first since being released. She shared a poignant message online:
“I only have one wish 🎗️🙏 BRING THEM HOME.”

Her friend and fellow survivor Karina Ariev also posted a moving tribute:
“My Danilzi (Daniella),
To the person who went through everything with me, hand in hand.
Thank Gd we are fortunate to celebrate your birthday at home.
You always were and always will be my partner in this life.”
Their bond, forged through unimaginable suffering, remains unbreakable.

A Voice for Those Still in Captivity
Since her release, Daniella has made it a personal mission to remind the world that the fight isn’t over. Every time another hostage is brought home, she sings “I’m Coming Home” in their honor—a ritual of healing and solidarity.
Her message to those still in captivity is urgent and clear:
“They don’t have time—bring them back NOW!”
Daniella’s story is a symbol of strength—but also a call to action. As she celebrates life and freedom, she reminds us that 59 hostages remain in Gaza. Her wish, like that of every returned hostage and their families, echoes louder each day: Bring Them Home.
You are so strong DEAR (S), HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂🎈 for hopefully a new stage of experiences creating e expectations and hopes❣️♾️🕊️‼️
