Daniel Norber, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen and former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier, has made history by becoming the first Republican in 50 years to win his Long Island seat in the New York State Assembly, boosted by support from former President Donald Trump. Norber, who served as a staff sergeant in the Israeli military police, grew up in Israel and has pledged strong support for the Jewish state.
Norber was in Israel on October 7 of last year when Hamas launched a violent incursion. Speaking to The Post from a bomb shelter with his wife, Inbal, and their four children, he called the attack “the worst atrocity to Jews since the Holocaust,” describing Israel as forever changed and under constant wartime footing. “I saw what happened in Israel,” Norber said. “I should do whatever I can to prevent that from happening here.”
