Dutch Authorities have released an Arab suspect accused of raising millions for Hamas, JNS reports.
Amin Abu Rashed, a 55-year-old suspected Palestinian terrorist leader, was arrested in June 2022 along with his daughter Israa. They were charged with sending approximately $12.7 million to terrorists in the Gaza Strip and being part of a criminal organization whose purpose was to financially support Hamas.
Rashed led the Palestine Faithful (Israa) Foundation in Rotterdam, a part of the Union of Good network that the US Treasury Department labeled a terror group in 2008. He has also been linked to the al-Aqsa Foundation, designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist entity by the U.S. in 2003.
After nearly a year in pretrial detention, a judge in the Netherlands on Wednesday suspended Rashed’s detention, allowing him to await trial outside of prison. The Rotterdam District Court cited Abu Rashed’s “personal circumstances” and health concerns related to being jailed as reasons for the decision. While released, Abu Rashed must report to authorities if requested, respond to court summonses, but will not be required to wear an ankle bracelet.
The Dutch ruling allowing Abu Rashed’s release was praised by the Dutch branch of the Samidoun Prisoner Solidarity Network, a pro-Palestinian group linked to the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). In a statement, the group said Abu Rashed would be “reunited with his family and friends.”
