Shocking new poll numbers reveal Hamas is losing its grip on Palestinian hearts and minds.
According to the respected Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PSR), a majority of Gazans (57%) now believe Hamas’ decision to attack Israel on October 7 was a mistake. This represents an astonishing 18-point drop in support since June.
Even in the Arab-controlled areas in Judea and Samaria, which have traditionally been more supportive of the attack, approval has declined significantly. While 64% still view the decision as correct, this number has also fallen sharply from previous surveys.
Overall, growing disillusionment with Hamas across Palestinian society has increased. In Gaza, support for the Iranian-backed group has dipped to 35%, down from 38% in the previous poll. Notably, Hamas now trails behind its rival Fatah in both Gaza and Judea and Samaria.
Although the PSR poll offers a rare glimpse into the changing attitudes within the Arab community, it also sheds a disturbing light on their perceptions of Hamas. Almost 90% rejected the widely documented atrocities committed by Hamas on October 7. Substantial evidence indicates extensive sexual crimes, including torture and gang rape, against Israeli civilians were committed, suggesting a major disconnect between reality and the propaganda Hamas feeds to its citizens.
In August, PSR had been accused of manipulating its poll results to artificially inflate support for Hamas. Taking these claims seriously, the nonprofit organization conducted an internal investigation. On Tuesday, PSR announced that no inconsistencies typical of arbitrary alterations had been discovered and a review of their quality control protocols proved no data tampering had occurred.”
