A viral video showing a presidential hopeful seemingly agreeing with a pro-Hamas demonstrator’s claim of Israeli ‘genocide’ in Gaza has gained widespread attention.

In the video, Vice President Kamala Harris was speaking at a campaign event at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee when she was interrupted by a protester wearing a keffiyeh.

“I know what you’re speaking of. I want a cease-fire. I want the hostage deal done. I want the war to end,” Harris initially responded, attempting to address the protester’s concerns.

However, the exchange quickly escalated when the man pressed further, shouting, “But what about the genocide? What about the genocide though?”

Harris, maintaining her composure, replied, “I respect your right to speak, but I’m speaking right now.”

As security personnel moved to remove the protester, he continued to yell, “How about the billions of dollars to Israel? What about the 19,000 children dead, and you won’t call it a genocide?”

Once the man was escorted from the venue, Harris addressed the interruption, saying, “Listen, what he’s talking about, it’s real. That’s not the subject that I came to discuss today, but it’s real, and I respect his voice.”

This is not the first time Harris has faced criticism for her handling of similar situations. In 2021, she drew attention for nodding along as a student at George Mason University accused Israel of ethnic genocide. At that time, Harris responded by saying the student’s “truth should not be suppressed.”

Harris’ family has also been public about their sympathies. Both Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff and niece Meena Harris have reportedly raised funds for UNRWA, which the United States cut funding to over their involvement in the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas-led massacre against Israel.

This past year has seen Jewish Americans weathering a storm of antisemitism post Oct. 7, leaving many questioning whether the Democratic ticket truly has their back. The Vice President’s recent stumble might just be the last straw for a community already on edge, wondering if their own safety concerns as well as the State of Israel are falling on deaf ears.
