The military has released headcam footage from a soldier in the Navy’s elite Shayetet 13 commando unit, showing the dramatic rescue of Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity in central Gaza’s Nuseirat on Saturday. The footage captures the moment the hostages were brought to a helipad for airlift to Israel.

According to the IDF, the Paratroopers Brigade’s reconnaissance unit played a crucial role in extracting Yamam officers, Shin Bet agents, and the four rescued hostages from Nuseirat, all while under fire. Simultaneously, members of the Israeli Air Force’s elite Shaldag and 669 units provided medical treatment to Yamam officer Chief Inspector Arnon Zmora, who was fatally shot by Hamas terrorists guarding three of the hostages.

Zmora succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at an Israeli hospital. In his honor, the rescue mission was named “Operation Arnon.”

In addition, the IDF released footage from the Chamal (command/operations room) as Israeli Special Forces were about to breach the building where terrorists were holding the hostages

On Sunday, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi, Chief of the General Staff, assessed the situation and toured Deir al-Balah in the Gaza Strip, accompanied by commanders involved in Operation ‘Arnon’ to rescue hostages.

He stated, “Bringing home the hostages is our mission, involving both the living and the fallen. Dismantling Hamas is crucial to prevent another October 7th. We made significant progress yesterday, but much remains to be done.”

He also thanked the Israel Police ‘Yamam’, the Israel Security Agency (ISA), the IDF, and other units for their cooperation, emphasizing the importance of calculated decisions and the quality of commanders in achieving these goals.
