The families of Israeli hostages still being held in Gaza had their hopes shaken on Monday as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that Hamas is demanding far more concessions from Israel than he can allow.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Israel forcefully rejected accusations from Hamas that Netanyahu was dragging his feet on reaching a ceasefire. Instead, they placed the blame squarely on the Iranian-backed terrorist group.

“The Hamas leadership is preventing an agreement,” the PMO stated. “Israel neither changed, nor added any condition to, the outline. On the contrary, as of now it is Hamas which has demanded 29 changes and has not responded to the original outline.”

The statement went on to reaffirm Israel’s red lines in the negotiations, such as maintaining Israeli control over the Philadelphi Corridor, and preventing the passage of terrorists, weapons, and ammunition to northern Gaza.

On Sunday, Mossad chief David Barnea flew to Rome to take part in a two-hour ceasefire meeting. Israeli sources reveal that Barnea is demanding Hamas to provide a comprehensive list of the surviving hostages, with 30 to be released in the deal’s initial six-week phase. In return, Israel would release hundreds of dangerous terrorists from its prisons.

However, if Hamas fails to hold up its part of the deal, or refuses to reasonably negotiate further during the first stage, Israel would retain the right to resume fighting.
