Fawzia Amin Sido, a Yazidi girl kidnapped by ISIS at age 11 and held by Hamas for a decade, has been rescued by Israeli forces in Gaza after a months-long operation led by the U.S., officials confirmed Thursday. Now 21, Fawzia was reunited with her family in Iraq, as emotional footage captured the moment she returned home.

“Fawzia was abducted by ISIS from Iraq and taken to Gaza, where she spent years as a hostage of a Hamas-ISIS member,” tweeted David Saranga, a senior Israeli official. He emphasized that her ordeal highlights the brutal experiences of Yazidi children, thousands of whom were enslaved or forced into military service by ISIS in 2014.

Though physically in good condition, Iraqi officials said Fawzia remains deeply traumatized by her years of captivity. The rescue operation, conducted after months of coordination between Iraqi, U.S., and Israeli forces, finally brought an end to her decade-long ordeal.
