A highly-anticipated bipartisan House rebuke of the International Criminal Court’s unprecedented legal assault against Israeli leadership was marred on Tuesday by the obstruction of anti-Israel Democrats beholden to their party’s radical fringe.

Recognizing the existential threat such unfounded prosecutions pose to Israel’s security, the Republican-led bill aimed to immediately curtail the ICC’s overreach by blocking entry to the U.S. for those prosecutors enabling the political persecution. Titled the “Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act,” it would also revoke any current visas, legal status, or financial transaction privileges.

The bill comes in direct response to the ICC chief prosecutor’s recent decision to issue arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over “war crimes” in Gaza.

While a formidable bipartisan coalition came together to pass the bill by a 247-155 margin, including 42 pro-Israel Democrats, the numbers clearly reveal a poisonous anti-Israel influence by party leadership. Unwilling to disrupt the anti-Israel narrative pushed by the Squad and BDS movement, 155 Democrats willingly surrendered American judicial independence.

Leading the charge was Hamas sympathizer Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who claimed the ICC must be allowed to work independently and without interference, arguing that the court is an “impartial and non-political” judicial body. Her patently naïve remarks drew zero pushback from party leadership.

Such contemptible apologism sends an undeniably disturbing message validating the moral bankruptcy of the ICC’s assault on the Middle East’s leading democracy. It signals to Israel’s enemies that their most destructive ambitions to permanently dismantle the Jewish state and overturn its judicial legitimacy now have high-level Democratic backing.
