In an effort to boost the flow of humanitarian aid, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) opened up a new border crossing in northern Gaza on Sunday.

As per the IDF, dozens of trucks ferrying flour from the United Nations World Food Program and 7 tankers carrying 266,000 liters of fuel were transferred through the crossing early Sunday morning through the new “Western Erez” crossing.

Despite the ongoing military efforts to topple Hamas, the IDF maintains a clear distinction between the terrorist organizations and infrastructures and the civilian population in the Gaza Strip. Over the past months, the IDF has implemented numerous humanitarian efforts aimed at improving the civilian situation in Gaza, including facilitating the delivery of food, medical supplies, fuel, and shelter, as well as providing direct water supply from Israel to Gaza.

However, these efforts have not been widely acknowledged in the mainstream media

The Times of Israel reports that three crossings are now being used to transfer humanitarian aid from Israel to the northern Gaza Strip. Western Erez, which opened on Sunday; Eastern Erez, which opened earlier this month adjacent to the existing Erez Crossing; and Gate 96, the military’s entrance to central Gaza’s Netzarim Corridor, which was used for the first time for aid deliveries in March.

Meanwhile, in southern Gaza, humanitarian aid continues to run through the Kerem Shalom crossing. However, the Rafah Crossing between Egypt and Gaza is currently closed due to ongoing IDF operations in the area.
