The Israeli government’s decision to raise the number of reservists the IDF can call up from 300,000 to 350,000 is unrelated to tensions in northern Israel, according to the military.
The IDF explains that the increase in the cap is due to the operation in Rafah, southern Gaza, requiring more personnel than originally planned.
During the war in the Gaza Strip, the IDF mobilized a total of 287,000 reservists, many of whom have since been released from duty. This was the largest-ever call-up of reservists in Israel’s history.
Initially, the cap was set at 300,000, raised to 360,000 in the early weeks of the war, then reduced back to 300,000. It is now being expanded to 350,000.
