An Indiana man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for threatening Jews.
According to court documents, a concerned individual reported Jeffrey Stevens to the FBI National Threat Operations Center, citing several alarming Facebook posts made by Stevens following Hamas’ indiscriminate attack against Israel on October 7.
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp GroupIn one particularly egregious right after the tragic massacre, Stevens wrote, “I am going to kill every Jew in Fort Wayne, and there is nothing you can do about it, because you are stupid F****. I am going to make sure I kill every one of you.”
Stevens antisemitic behavior escalated when he posted a threatening message on the CIA’s website, stating, “I am going to shoot every pro-Israel US government official in the head, and there is nothing you can do about it because you are the pathetic CIA. I am going to kill all of you.”
When questioned by police, Stevens confessed to sending the messages but blamed his actions on a drinking problem. Nevertheless, the US justice system on Thursday sentenced him to a 15-month prison sentence. Stevens will be also subject to two years of probation after his release, during which the 42-year-old will be closely monitored to ensure no further threats are made to the Jewish community or government officials.
Recently, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb vetoed a bill that had been amended to exclude examples from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism.
Expressing his concern, Governor Holcomb argued that the exclusion of these examples weakened the bill’s effectiveness in addressing antisemitism.
IHRA’s working definition adopted in 2016 includes contemporary examples of antisemitism, such as denying Jews their right to self-determination by claiming the State of Israel’s existence is a racist endeavor, comparing contemporary Israeli policies to those of the Nazis, and holding Jews collectively responsible for the actions of the State of Israel.
