Israel’s amped-up attacks against Hezbollah are a masterclass in modern warfare, leaving the terror group scrambling and its Iranian backers in a cold sweat, according to a veteran British commander.

In an interview with Arutz Sheva, Colonel Richard Kemp described Israel’s “rapid attrition” via precision airstrikes and targeted attacks over the past year as having significantly damaged Hezbollah’s leadership and weapons capabilities in an “unprecedented” way.

“No other Western country has achieved anything even remotely close in any modern war,” Kemp said.

Despite these losses, Kemp acknowledged that Hezbollah still maintains a substantial arsenal of missiles and drones, along with fighters to operate them. However, he emphasized that the elimination of much of the terror group’s command structure has severely undermined its ability to launch large-scale coordinated attacks.

Regarding Nasrallah’s successor, Kemp stated that while a replacement has likely been named, it will take considerable time for them to match the effectiveness of Nasrallah’s three-decade leadership.

“Lower-level leaders can also be replaced, but the collective knowledge and experience that has been lost so rapidly represents an immense blow to Hezbollah,” Kemp noted. “This is especially true considering that terrorist groups in the Middle East generally operate on the basis of personal networks and connections with their sponsors.”

Kemp also touched on the broader regional implications, noting Iran’s failure to respond to the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran and a failed missile attack on Israel in April. He suggested that the Iranian regime may be paralyzed by fear and concerned about its future.

“There is also a psychological element for those who might be thinking of stepping up. They were stunned by the targeted attacks and are reeling daily from what is befalling their bosses. How many will want to step up to the plate against the fear that they will be next?”

“One thing they will know is that they are now the subject of ridicule across the Middle East, and they will find this intolerable,” he added. “Not only that, but they can ill afford to allow such weakness to prevail amidst so much opposition and dissent inside the country.”

He also advised against a ceasefire, stating that Israel should “press forward with even greater intensity” while Hezbollah is weakened, and dismissed critics in the US and France as “timid and pusillanimous.”

Regarding potential ground operations in Lebanon, Kemp deferred to the judgment of the IDF and Israel’s political leaders. However, he stressed the importance of large-scale destruction to deny terrorists the means to continue their attacks, arguing that relying solely on current achievements as a deterrent would be short-lived.”
