It’s no secret that Iran has no love for Donald Trump. After all, the former president spent his entire term tightening the screws on Tehran. Trump withdrew the U.S. from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018, reimposed crippling economic sanctions, and ordered the assassination of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a 2020 drone strike.

Now it seems like Tehran is itching to settle the score.

“Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform yesterday. “Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.

Although the details weren’t revealed by the former president, his campaign team issued a statement Tuesday claiming U.S. intelligence had warned Trump of “real and specific” threats from Iran to assassinate him.

“Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference,” stated campaign communications director Steven Cheung.

Days after an unrelated assassination attempt in July by an American lone wolf, US media reported that authorities had received intelligence on an alleged Iranian plot against Trump, prompting his protection to be boosted. Then in September, a Secret Service agent spotted a rifle poking through as Trump was playing a round of golf in West Palm Beach. The suspect, later identified as 58-year-old Ryan Routh, was also reported to be working alone. He is being held on federal gun charges and is expected to face assassination charges, a crime that could carry a penalty of up to life in prison.
