Iran has threatened to strike a joint US-UK naval base in the Indian Ocean if America launches any attack against the Islamic Republic.
“There will be no distinction in targeting British or American forces if Iran is attacked from any base in the region or within the range of Iranian missiles,” a senior Iranian military official tells The Telegraph. “When the time comes, it won’t matter whether you’re an American, British, or Turkish soldier – you will be targeted if your base is used by Americans.”

Approximately 4,000 United States and British personnel are stationed on the island, comprising both military service members and civilian contractors. The base is considered strategically valuable for its ability to launch bombers against Iran’s fortified underground facilities. However, Iran claims it has weapons capable of reaching Diego Garcia, including upgraded Khorramshahr missiles and long-range Shahed-136B drones.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has been busy reviving his “maximum pressure” strategy against Iran to curb its export of global terrorism. On Friday, he warned that “very bad things will happen” if the regime fails to agree to a nuclear deal.
“I sent them a letter just recently, and I said: you have to make a decision, one way or the other, and we either have to talk and talk it out or very bad things are going to happen to Iran,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“I don’t want that to happen. My big preference – and I don’t say this through strength or weakness – my big preference is, we work it out with Iran. But if we don’t work it out, bad, bad things are going to happen to Iran.”
Despite Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei banning direct talks with Washington, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi recently confirmed Tehran hasn’t completely closed the door on indirect discussions.
