A mob marched through Belfast on Saturday, converging on the US Consulate to condemn Israel’s “genocide” in Gaza.
Organized by “Mothers Against Genocide,” the march began at Queen’s University and proceeded to the consulate in Stranmillis, where demonstrators were seen carrying Palestinian flags and red-stained blankets meant to represent civilian casualties in Gaza.

What kind of a government stays silent or is complicit, or enables genocide? Ethnic cleansing, apartheid,” UNISON Trade Union Regional Secretary Patricia McKeown told the cheering crowd. “The taking hostage of thousands of Palestinian men and women and throwing them into prisons using inhuman and degrading treatment and torture.”
Hamas claimed on Saturday to have accepted an Egyptian-backed proposal that would see five hostages returned to Israel, including 22-year-old Eden Alexander, in exchange for an unspecified number of Arab prisoners and 50 days of ceasefire in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office indicated that a counter-proposal has been submitted following consultations with his security cabinet late last night.
On March 18, the IDF resumed its defensive operations in Gaza after a 42-day ceasefire expired and Hamas refused to release any more hostages unless its full demands are met, including a permanent end to the war. Israel maintains it will continue operations until Hamas returns the remaining 59 hostages, with only 24 still believed to be alive. Backed by unprecedented US and Arab support, Israel is also demanding for Hamas to relinquish power, disarm, and exile its leadership from Gaza so it can be rehabilitated without ever threatening the Jewish State’s existence again.
While Gaza’s Ministry of Health claims over 50,000 casualties, its figures remain unverified as they are provided by Hamas and don’t distinguish between terrorists and civilians. Meanwhile, the IDF has taken unprecedented measures to minimize civilian casualties, including advance warnings of strikes and establishment of humanitarian corridors. All in spite of Hamas launching thousands of rockets at Israel and sending their terrorists to murder over a thousand, rape dozens, and kidnap hundreds of innocent Israelis from their homes on Oct 7th,
