0 commentsThe last time 86-year-old Israeli hostage Aryeh Zalmanovich was seen by the public was when IDF released footage over the summer showing the 86-year-old being violently kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7. Although Kibbutz Nir Oz announced his death shortly after the massacre, no firsthand accounts had been given.
Until now.
In an interview with Kan News, Boaz, the son of recently freed hostage Farhan al-Qadi, revealed that his father and Zalmanovich were held together in a southern Gaza hospital following their capture on October 7. During their shared ordeal, Zalmanovich spoke fondly of his family and home, creating a tender connection between the two men in the worst of circumstances.
“Dad was in a hospital the whole time, he wasn’t moved, and Farhan was with him for certain stages,” Boaz said. “I understand from Farhan that they had a special bond. Farhan was also wounded, but he still helped take care of Dad. Not in a medical way, more in terms of giving him support.”
“Dad told Farhan that he loved us and that he was worried about all the members of the kibbutz. The kibbutz was his life’s work. He was there since 1957 and it was all destroyed in front of his eyes.”
Tragically, Al-Qadi told Boaz that unlike other hostages who were shot, Zalmanovich died by starvation and lack of medical treatment for his extensive wounds. Out of the 251 innocent people kidnapped by Hamas on Oct. 7, 103 are still being held in Gaza of which 33 have sadly been confirmed dead by the IDF.
