With the Paris Olympics set to kick off tomorrow, Israel’s team will receive 24 hour police protection amid escalating death threats.

According to the Times of Israel, 15 Israeli Olympians received ominous emails last week from a previously unknown entity calling itself the “People’s Defense Organization.” The messages, laced with anti-Semitic rhetoric, explicitly threatened carry out a massacre similar to the 1972 Munich Games where 11 Israeli athletes were murdered by Arab terrorists.

“You will be awaiting attack at every moment, in the airport, the hotel, and the streets which belong only to us. Even a wave of arrests against our organization won’t stop us from seeing our plan through. Prepare for the intifada!” one message reads.

“The fate of the Zionists will be like the fate of the Palestinians in Gaza if the Zionists continue to threaten everyone. If you come, take into account that we intend to repeat the events of Munich 1972,” says another.

Some Israeli athletes even received invitations to their own funerals, such as judoka Peter Paltchik who received the date of his murder on July 27 and directions to a cemetery.

On Thursday, the situation took an darker turn when a major security breach by a cyber terrorist group known as “Zeus” published private data belonging to Israel’s 88 member team. The compromised information ranged from travel reservations to personal military service photos. Sensitive details such as military ID numbers, login information for various online services, and residential addresses were also released.

Israel’s cybersecurity directorate have linked the hack to Iran whose aim is to create a climate of fear for the tens of thousands who will be attending the Paris games.
