Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has challenged former President Donald Trump to a head-to-head debate when both address a Libertarian convention later this month.

“Dear President Trump, I’m grateful to you for calling attention to the rigged polling methodologies that biased DNC-influenced media have used against you. I’d like to make you an offer,” Kennedy wrote in an open letter on X this weekend.

“We’re both going to be speaking at the upcoming Libertarian convention on May 24 and 25. It’s perfect neutral territory for you and me to have a debate where you can defend your record for your wavering supporters.”

Kennedy goes on to allege he is drawing support from former Trump voters who are upset that the former president blew up the deficit, shut down businesses during the COVID-19 years, and filled his cabinet with “swamp creatures.”

Trump has been vocal about calling for debates with Biden but has shied away from debating other 2024 rivals so far. He famously skipped the GOP primary debates, arguing it was unnecessary because voters knew his record.

A recent poll reported by The Hill shows Kennedy commanding the support of 16% of registered voters. This places him behind President Biden’s 44% and closely trails former President Trump, who holds a slight edge at 37%.

Kennedy announced in October that he would run as an independent candidate after initially starting his bid as a Democrat. He has been a supporter of Israel’s war against Hamas, having been on record calling Israel a “moral nation” for responding more restrained than other countries might have in similar situations.
