HBO host John Oliver used his final pre-election show to court anti-Israel voters, arguing that Vice President Harris would be “easier to hold accountable” than Trump when it comes to weakening America’s support for the Jewish state.
“I’ve been moved by some Muslim and Arab voices who’ve also wrestled hard with this question and arrived at the conclusion, despite their pain, to vote for Harris,” Oliver said on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight. “A Trump win would be an extreme danger to Muslims in our country, all immigrants, and Americans feeling that way.”
Join the JBN+ WhatsApp GroupOliver’s shameless pitch perfectly captured the Democratic Party’s dangerous drift from its pro-Israel roots, as progressive activists work overtime to erode bipartisan support for the Jewish state. The comedian even criticized Bill Clinton—one of the few Democratic voices still willing to defend Israel’s right to self-defense—for “scolding” voters who oppose military aid to Israel.
“That’s for a pretty clear reason: picking apart policy proposals when the alternative is Trump is like debating which color to paint the living room when your house is on f—ing fire,” Oliver said. “You kind of have to prioritize the imminent threat.”
“I understand why a message from me might not be welcome either,” he continued. “But for what it’s worth, I’ve been moved by some Muslim and Arab voices who’ve also wrestled hard with this question and arrived at the conclusion — despite their pain — to vote for Harris.”
Most telling was what Oliver didn’t mention: Hamas’s brutal massacre on Oct. 7, their use of human shields in Gaza, their vast terror tunnel network under civilian areas, or their stated goal of destroying Israel.
But then again, that might have complicated his simplistic narrative.
