A former star of “The Mandalorian” is suing entertainment behemoth Disney after she was fired for posting controversial Holocaust-related content.

The controversy ignited in February 2021 when actress Gina Carano shared a social media post comparing political divides in America to Nazi Germany.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?” Carano wrote on her Instagram account.

The fallout was swift when Disney promptly fired her from the popular Star Wars series.

Fast forward to February 2024, when Carano filed a lawsuit against Disney alleging wrongful termination and sex discrimination. In her legal claim, Carano argues she was fired for expressing her personal political opinions while male actors were given free rein to make political comments without facing consequences, such as former co-star Pedro Pascal.

In 2017, Pascal compared Donald Trump to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler and likened the former president’s supporters to Nazis. In 2018, he drew criticism for a social media post comparing US border detention practices to the treatment of Jewish children during the Holocaust.

While Disney maintains it has a constitutional right to disassociate itself from Carano’s political views, a federal judge last week rejected the entertainment behemoth’s efforts to dismiss the lawsuit.

Carano’s lawsuit against Disney is scheduled for trial on Sept. 25, 2025.
