A mob of anti-Israel agitators brought disgrace upon the University of Chicago’s commencement ceremony this weekend.
According to the Guardian, dozens of pro-Hamas radicals caused a raucous scene on Saturday, storming out mid-graduation while shouting unhinged accusations of “genocide” aimed at Israel’s defensive operations in Gaza. The self-entitled mob waved Palestinian flags and donned Arab keffiyeh scarves in solidarity with the terror organization.
The protests were sparked after four Arab graduates had their diplomas withheld over their illicit leadership roles in an anti-Semitic “encampment” that illegally occupied campus grounds for weeks.
One of the ringleaders, Youssef Hasweh, reportedly revealed his warped anti-Jewish priorities, callously declaring, “My diploma doesn’t matter when there are people in Palestine and in Gaza that will never walk a stage again, who will never receive a diploma.”
Shockingly, UChicago administrators decided to capitulate by meekly issuing a statement saying that the school is “committed to upholding the rights of students to express a wide range of views.”
Meanwhile, pro-Hamas copycat mobs motivated by the same malign antisemitic ideology have been disrupting graduations at Harvard, MIT, and other elite campuses across the nation. Administrations must stop coddling these extremists and reestablish basic law and order.
Of course, this juvenile theater completely ignores the reality that Hamas’ pursuit of bloodshed is the actual obstacle to peace and Arab self-determination. Unfortunately, facts don’t matter to these anti-Israel radicals whose sole aim seems to be sowing chaos across America’s universities.
