Tel Aviv’s Magistrate Court has ordered a nine-day extension of detention for Siegal Yana Itzkowitz, the mother suspected of murdering her six-year-old son in Herzliya.

During her hearing on Wednesday, the judge displayed visible shock upon viewing crime scene photographs, slamming the images on the table after being warned by a police representative that they were “difficult pictures.” The suspect’s lawyer’s request to hold the hearing behind closed doors was also denied by the judge, according to Arutz Sheva.

The body of Itzkowitz’s son was made on Tuesday when the child’s grandmother arrived at the apartment in the Galil Yam neighborhood of Herzliya and immediately alerted law enforcement. Local police believe that following the murder of her child, Itzkowitz attacked a security guard at a nearby mall with an axe, causing minor injuries. Reports suggest she then undressed, meditated, and attempted to to commit suicide.

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that Itzkowitz acted under the influence of drugs. She is expected to undergo an extensive psychiatric evaluation during her time in detention.
