0 commentsNew York’s Upper East Side was swept with emotion yesterday as thousands gathered to remember the victims of last year’s Hamas attack on Israel.
Organized by a coalition of local Jewish groups, the event kicked off with a march from 79th and Park Avenue to 85th Street. Participants waved Israeli flags and carried signs bearing the names and faces of the victims and hostages. The event also featured live music and remarks from survivors and families of victims.

At the heart of the commemoration was a newly written Torah scroll. Its ornate cover, embroidered with the names of those lost on October 7, symbolized the enduring spirit of the Jewish people after such unimaginable tragedy.
“Torah is called the Tree of Life. We are honoring the lives of those murdered with the timeless life of the Torah. The Jewish response to tragedy has always been to keep cherishing life, building, and growing,” says Rabbi Yosef Wilhelm of Chabad Young Professionals.
As night fell and the bright lights of Manhattan blazed to life, attendees joined in a final prayer for peace. Watch below as the sound of thousands of voices rising in unison offers a powerful conclusion to a day of remembrance in the heart of New York City.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids.
