Nicaragua announced its decision to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, citing the ongoing war in Gaza and condemning the Israeli government as “fascist and genocidal.”
The announcement was made by Vice President Rosario Murillo, wife of President Daniel Ortega, who has long criticized Israel’s military actions against Hamas.
While the move has significant symbolic value, it will have little practical effect, as diplomatic relations between the two nations have been minimal, with Israel not maintaining an ambassador in Managua.
Nicaragua’s government further solidified its stance by passing a resolution labeling Israel an “enemy of humanity.”
