Israel emerged from Iran’s surprise missile attack on Tuesday with only two reported injuries among its civilian population.

Israel’s sophisticated air defense system played a crucial role in mitigating potential casualtiessaw over 180 missiles launched towards Israel . Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, the IDF spokesman, stated, “The air-defense system is fully operational, detecting and intercepting threats wherever necessary, even at this moment.” However, he cautioned that “the defense is not hermetic.”

The attack forced Israel’s entire civilian population to take shelter, with alarms sounding across the country and explosions heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley. Despite the scale of the assault, Israel’s military later announced that civilians were free to leave their shelters following a situational assessment.

This incident marks Iran’s second direct missile attack on Israel this year. In April, a similar barrage resulted in only one severe injury – a seven-year-old Bedouin girl who has since been released from the hospital.

While Israel’s civilian population emerged largely unscathed, there was one reported fatality outside of Israel’s borders. A Palestinian man in the West Bank village of Nu’eima, near Jericho, was killed by falling fuselage from an intercepted missile. The attack comes amidst escalating tensions in the region, following recent Israeli airstrikes that targeted top leaders of Iran’s allies, including Hezbollah in Lebanon.
