As tensions escalate along Israel’s northern border, communities are quietly preparing for a potential large-scale attack from Hezbollah.
In recent weeks, municipalities across northern Israel have been working in conjunction with the National Food Security Initiative to design an emergency plan that could sustain thousands of residents in the event of a protracted conflict.
The plan aims to distribute cooked meals and emergency boxes containing food staples, baby formula, and other essential goods to individuals and families in need. Cities including Tzfat, Nahariya, Hatzor Haglilit, Akko, Tiberias, Karmiel, and Maalot are at the forefront of these preparations. As part of their efforts, over 10,000 ‘In Case of Emergency’ boxes containing dry goods and basic food items have already been transported to distribution centers in the north.
A major concern for planners is the potential for significant supply shortages. Damage to farming areas and direct attacks on warehouses and factories could severely impact food availability. There are also fears that some food supplies could be redirected for Israel’s soldiers.
Local welfare agencies are also preparing for various wartime scenarios. These include potential human resource shortages due to further IDF reserve call-ups, closure of schools that serve as key distribution points, and restricted movement in affected areas.
Meanwhile, the IDF is reportedly prepared to house tens of thousands of additional evacuees from the north in large tent cities in the event that Hezbollah makes the mistake of starting another war. While many families have already evacuated border areas, plans are being made to assist elderly and disabled residents who may face greater challenges in quickly relocating.
