On the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ devastating attack against Israel, New York state is taking significant steps to show its solidarity. Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff across the state, while iconic landmarks such as the Mario Cuomo Bridge and One World Trade Center will be illuminated in yellow to support Israel and the hostages still languishing in Gaza.
“One year after the horrific atrocities committed against the people of Israel, my heart goes out to the victims and their families,” Hochul said. “New York stands with Israel — today and every day. As the home of the largest Jewish population outside of Israel, we will do everything in our power to defend against the forces of hatred and stand firmly against those who perpetuate it.”

After a year that saw over 4,000 anti-Israel protests, local law enforcement are gearing up for what could be a long day of keeping the peace.
“It’s all hands on deck Monday because we want to have a safe day and let New Yorkers go about their business unabated,” NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell stated during a Sunday press briefing. “You’ll see barricades. You’ll see marked police cars. You’ll see our strategic response group on bikes. You’ll see drones up when we need them. You’ll see aviation when we need them.”
Over Rosh Hashanah multiple bomb threats against NYC synagogues were also reported though these were threats later determined to be non-credible.
