Dr. Yitzhak Yifat, the IDF paratrooper who stood in the middle of the iconic photograph at the Western Wall, taken right after its recapture by Israeli forces in the Six-Day War, has passed away at age 81.

Israeli author Yossi Klein Halevi calls photographer David Rubinger’s iconic and signature photo “the most beloved Jewish photographic image of our time.”
