Dr. Yitzhak Yifat, the IDF paratrooper who stood in the middle of the iconic photograph at the Western Wall, taken right after its recapture by Israeli forces in the Six-Day War, has passed away at age 81.

Israeli author Yossi Klein Halevi calls photographer David Rubinger’s iconic and signature photo “the most beloved Jewish photographic image of our time.”

Israel and the entire Jewish community reflect with deep sorrow, mourning the loss of a man whose image epitomized the resilience and bravery of a tumultuous era.

His life, forever marked by a moment captured in time, stands as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for Israel. A beacon of courage for generations to come.

May the memory of Dr. Yitzhak Yifat always be a blessing.
